When you sign the pledge
We store your name, email address, selected relationship to the movement, country, any optional location information, and a record of the pledge version you accepted. We send a confirmation email and record when you confirm. Signing does not subscribe you to a newsletter.
Contact details and precise locations remain private. Public movement totals count each active supporter with a verified pledge and confirmed email once. U.S. state totals are shown only for groups of at least 10 supporters; names, county totals, and contact details are not shown. State totals may not add up to the overall total. Optional referral or campaign information may be stored with the pledge when supplied.
When you share an experience
We store the contact details, experience, optional case context, attribution preference, and separate contact choice you submit so we can privately review your account. Stories are not published automatically. Permission to contact you is not permission to publish. Any public use requires editorial review and separate, specific publication approval.
The submission form is intended for adults. Do not include a child’s name, date of birth, school, address, photograph, private medical or therapy information, or confidential documents. Share only what you are comfortable providing. See our publishing standards.
When you offer volunteer skills
Online volunteer intake is not accepting submissions yet. The disabled form is a preview and cannot send or retain information. When intake is explicitly opened, the form will ask only for your name or preferred name, email address, volunteer role, skills you would like to contribute, general availability, optional country and time zone, participation preference, and explicit permission to contact you about that inquiry. Do not include children’s information, case histories, or private documents.
Your inquiry and participation preference remain private. A preference to discuss recognition later does not authorize publication; any public recognition requires separate explicit permission. Sharing your personal story is not required. An enabled submission will require email confirmation. After you confirm, a private summary containing those same inquiry fields will go to the project’s approved internal review address so a person can review it. Confirmation starts a review; it does not accept you as an active volunteer, create membership, subscribe you to newsletters, or create a public profile. Confirmation links expire after 24 hours. A successful notification clears the link; a definite delivery rejection permits a bounded retry with the same link, while an uncertain result is held for manual reconciliation and is not resent automatically. Withdrawal links are single-use and remain available until used or the underlying record is later cleaned up. You may withdraw the inquiry using its private link or make a privacy request.
Services that help run the website
Vercel hosts the website and provides BotID protection. Neon stores form submissions when their intake is enabled. Cloudflare Turnstile checks enabled submissions for automated abuse. Resend sends pledge confirmation emails and, when volunteer intake is enabled, volunteer confirmation messages and the confirmed-inquiry summary to the approved internal review address. These services process information needed to perform those functions. Our contact address forwards to the project’s Gmail inbox.
Hosting and security services may process network addresses, browser details, and technical logs. The pledge rate limiter stores a keyed hash of a network address rather than the raw address. Its active window is one hour; expired entries are removed during later requests, so removal is not immediate when traffic stops.
Retention and your choices
Confirmation links expire after 24 hours. Expiration does not automatically delete a pending record. Approved volunteer-retention rules and cleanup tooling are prepared, but production cleanup enforcement has not yet been verified and is not operating. Submitted pledges, stories, and any future volunteer inquiries therefore currently have no operating automatic deletion schedule. We will update this notice only after that enforcement gate is verified.
You may request access, correction, withdrawal of publication permission, or deletion by emailing the project. We may need to confirm that a request concerns your information. Please identify your submission without sending additional sensitive family details. Deleting an active record does not instantly remove provider backups or security logs.
Using the resource finder
The finder does not request your precise location. Your state and county choices appear in the page address so you can save or copy a selection. Choosing a location does not submit a pledge or story. Opening a county-specific legal-aid search sends the chosen county and state to that independent directory.
Fundraising and other websites
Donations are handled on GoFundMe under its own terms and privacy notice. This website does not collect payment-card or bank details. External research links also lead to independently operated websites.
